This Wooden Grandchildren Sign is one of my favorite crafts. It is so simple to assemble and yet so special for the recipient. The best part is it is easy to add names to as your family grows. As with most of my crafts, I begin with basic wood bought from local craft stores, hardware stores, or Amazon.
For this project, I began with a wooden plaque. There are so many shapes and sizes to choose from but I like the simplicity of the standard rectangle.
You can pick up one like this on Amazon! #ad
From there, I added the nameplates. Again, there is no need to be fancy with these, so keep it simple. I found these on Amazon however you would need to cut them in half. And to be honest, you could probably find a better deal at your local craft or hardware store.
To spruce up the unfinished wood, I coat all of it with a coat of wood stain. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here.
Once the stain has dried completely, I spray with a layer of Poly which I also purchased at Amazon. Click here
While the wood is drying completely, I get to work on my vinyl. In case you didn’t know already, I LOVE MY CRICUT! I am a sucker for personalized gifts so when I learned about what you can do with a Cricut, I was sold immediately! If you don’t have one yet, you need to get one!!! Using Design Space you are able to create gifts your family will love. Using Cricut Access Premium #ad unlocks even more!
For my project, I went with Grandkids’ names and birthdates. Not only is it cute, but it also never hurts to have a Birthday reminder hanging around the house!
Once I placed all of the vinyl on the wood, it was ready to be assembled.
For this, I used simple Small Screw Eye Pins.
AND VOILA!
As I mentioned, this is the perfect gift for a growing family since nameplates can easily be hooked on to the bottom! If you think you may need that in the future I suggest stocking up on the nameplates so that everything will match when the time comes!
