Gifts For Kids (That kids and parents will both love)

There is nothing I love more than the joy of a child face opening a present they really wanted. The problem is, half the time the kids play with the present for 2.5 seconds and then move on to the next, never to pick it up again. As a mom, this is hard also. I hate when people spend money on extravagant gifts for my children that I know right away will never be played with after the day of receipt. Based on this frustration, I have created this list of gifts for kids (that kids and parents will both love)!

I will break it up into age groups but not by gender. I have one girl and one boy and let me tell you, they both love these toys! There are a few items, that each favor but for the most part, they are all interchangeable.

With our busy lives, Amazon Prime has been a game-changer for my day-to-day as well as gift-giving. I use it for buying things for others as well as my wedding registry #ad and baby registry #ad. If you don’t have Prime yet you can sign up to receive a 30-day free trial #ad. The best part is that even if you are on a fixed income #ad or a student #ad, they offer different programs to help you join.

Once you join Amazon Prime, you can take advantage of the free 2-day shipping and even same-day shipping on some qualifying orders.

Gifts For Babies!!! (0-12 Months)

Here are some must-haves for both mom and child during the first year.

  1. Aden + Anais Swaddles These are my go to gift at baby showers. I can’t put into words how much I loved these. They get softer and softer every wash. They work for swaddling, nursing cover, snot rags, car seat cover blankets, the list goes on….
  2. Dekor Plus Diaper Pail This is hands down the best diaper pail. The bags are far more user friendly than some of the other name brands and the double lid keeps the stink at bay. The bags are also easily available on Amazon’s subscribe and save program which can unlock additional discounts in addition to being delivered to your front door on a set schedule.
  3. Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes Car Ride Must Have!! Again, good toys dont have to cost a fortune!! This simple, inexpensive item was used ALL THE TIME in our house and car. Both kids loved it.
  4. Wipe Warmer Not only will this keep your little ones bum nice and toasty during a change, it also is stationary. You wont loose/ misplace it when you are loosing your mind on the sleepless nights! My favorite part is that when you pull a wipe out, it is heavy enough to stay in place while you pull a wipe out.
  5. DIAPERS There has never been a parent who wasnt appreciative of diapers. In the first year it is definately quantity over quality so going with a big name is not always necessary. I loved these Amazon brand diapers!
  6. Prime Membership This is a gift ANYONE would love. New parents need all the help they can get and Prime gives that help! Hauling a fussy baby to a store is no fun. Ordering what you need in the morning and having it on your porch as soon as that evening – Yes please!

Gifts For Toddlers (1-4 years old)

  1. Tea Set This tea set is perfect! It is durable, well made and good for hours of fun. It has batteries but isn’t overly obnoxious (parents will thank you for this)!!
  2. Ice Cream Shop This set is hours of fun. Let the little ones create the perfect treat for everyone in the house. Melissa and Dough make amazing toys, built to last. And the best part is that everything has a place to make clean up a breeze.
  3. Play-Doh Sometimes the best gifts are the simplest. Play-Doh has been around for ages and there is a good reason why. It is cheep, simple, and most importantly KIDS LOVE IT!
  4. Blocks These are great for dexterity as well as creativity. Wether its a bridge, a house, a tower or a pyramid, the sky is the limit.
  5. Lego Duplos Learn basic instruction following with these amazing sets. There are tons of sets to choose from depending what each kiddo is into. All sets are interchaingable therefore you can also create your own desisgns.
  6. Baby Playpen This was a gamechanger in our house. It not only works for keeping the littles out of harm in a safe play space, but also can be used to keep the littles out and give the older siblings a space for their toys. Over time the pen was actually used to put my older childs drawing table. She had her pens in there so that her little brother could not get to them. It was a chance for her to get away from him and keep the toys that she didnt want him to break. Also once the kids are done with it, it doubles as a perfect new puppy pen!
  7. Strider Bike This is the best way to help children learn to ride a bike! It allows them to keep their feet down and master balance in preparation for a “Big Kid Bike”.

Gifts For Little Kids (5-9 years old)

  1. Slime I’m not sure I will ever fully understand the facination with this stuff but all I have to say is, it’s a hit and I promise any kid will love it.
  2. Kinetic Sand This stuff is amazing. It’s is easy to clean up and never dries out. The kids love it. You can buy kits with cutters and molds or you can just use what you have around the house. It is not sticky so you dont have to worry about it sticking/drying to anything.
  3. Legos Similar to Duplo, just smaller. These provide hours of entertainment. I suggest sticking with Lego brand because even if other brands claim to be interchainable with Lego, they are NOT the same.
  4. 18″ Doll I get it, there are a few other well known versions of this doll however unless you are a collector or concerned with name brands, this doll is perfect. Very few kids know the difference between brands. My daughter has 3 of these, clothes, shoes, assesories all for around the same price of one of the big name dolls.
  5. Airplanes These are a neighborhood classic. All the kids come by to watch them do loops and fly down the street. They are suprisingly resilient to damage however eventually the crashes wear them out. Luckily at their price they can be replaced every summer if needed.
  6. Stomp Rocket Similar to the Airplanes, these rockets are a crowd pleaser. We take them to the park and end up with a line of kids waiting for their turn. The only down side to these is that the rockets are somewhat breakable if toddlers get a hold of them.
  7. Plasma Car Super fun for all ages (even moms!)

These are just a few of my favorite Gifts for kids (that kids and parents will both love). I hope these ideas help you shop for the little ones in your life. Remember, the best presents do not have to be the most expensive. Avoid small pieces that will get lost. Avoid surprise toys full of needless packaging. Outdoors items are always a hit. And last but not least, read reviews, most are written by moms and dads who know best from experience!
